Fugaku Wind Cave in Aokigahara

Fugaku Wind Cave (富岳風穴) is one of the caves created by past eruptions and lava flows of Mt Fuji. It is located at the northern foot of Fuji, Yamanashi Prefecture, in the mysterious Aokigahara Jukai forest (the Sea of Trees).

It is 201 meters long in total and 8.7 meters high, and it will take 15 minutes to explore. The average temperature is 3 degrees Celsius. In the past, it was used as a natural refrigerator for silkworm cocoons and seeds.

The cave has been designated as Japan’s Natural Monument.

Access: 20 minutes from Kawaguchiko Interchange, Chuo Expressway, then 15 minutes on foot.
